Licensing & sources

DC Copilot is built on published standards. How we treat those sources is central to the product’s integrity, so we set it out plainly here.

Ministry & agency design standards

Our modules are drawn from design standards published by New Zealand government agencies (for example, the Ministry of Education), which are Crown copyright and generally released under CC BY-NC 4.0 NZ. Within a review, we reproduce the relevant clause verbatim, with attribution to the source standard and its version, so you can verify each finding against the original.

A note on non-commercial licensing

The CC BY-NC licence permits non-commercial use. Whether a paid tool falls within those terms is a question we take seriously and are actively working through — including seeking the appropriate permissions. If you’re a rights-holder with a question about our use, please contact us and we’ll respond promptly.

Third-party standards — referenced, not reproduced

Standards such as NZS 4121 and the New Zealand Building Code are the copyright of their publishers (Standards New Zealand / MBIE). We treat these as the legal minimums and reference them — pointing you to the relevant standard and telling you to verify — but we do not reproduce their text. That line is deliberate.

Your drawings

Drawings and project data you upload remain entirely yours. We use them only to produce your review and never to train AI models. See the Privacy Policy.

Attribution

Source standards are the property of their respective publishers. DC Copilot’s engine, requirement libraries and interface are our own. Where a standard is reproduced under licence, the licence and attribution travel with the clause.
